Noa Verborgh Belgian, b. 1997
Noa Verborgh (°1997, Antwerp, BE) is a self described professional dreamer who explores the fragile boundary between the familiar and the uncanny. She holds a Master in Fine Arts from LUCA School of Arts in Ghent and lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. Her practice is driven by an ongoing fascination with fantasy, folklore and cultural narratives that exist beyond rational explanation.
Working primarily with oil paint, Verborgh builds images from simple, recognisable motifs such as trees, houses, plants and animals. These forms echo the visual language of fables and cartoons, suggesting comfort and familiarity. Through bold, artificial colour palettes and strong contrasts, this sense of ease is quietly destabilised. Colour plays a central role in her work, creating tension and emotional ambiguity rather than reassurance.
Narrative is present but never closed. Verborgh weaves stories while deliberately leaving gaps, inviting the viewer to participate and project their own associations. Her paintings function as threshold spaces where wonder and unease coexist, and where meaning remains open and
unresolved.
