Alex Brassart (b. 2000) lives and studies painting at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent. His work considers how painting runs parallel to lived experience, existential doubt and the circulation of media images. In this sense, painting becomes a way of working through personal memories and associations through images he encounters and connects to them. He works with imagery found in film stills, digital found footage and newspapers, isolating fragments and subjecting them to a soft treatment of the image surface that creates distance and estrangement. These materials carry a sentimental value, indirectly connected to memory.
